Art Design and Media Student Award 2012

Following the success of In the Frame 2011, ADM-HEA invites students on UK-based art, design or media higher education

courses to enter this year’s Student Award Reflect:on learning experiences in

art, design and media. The award aims to capture important aspects of students’ experiences in higher education and provides an excellent opportunity to showcase work from institutions across the UK.

This year we are asking students to focus on their experiences of learning in art, design and media and submit an image or piece of multimedia (visual / audio / film / etc), accompanied by a short statement, that reflects the epiphanies, inspirations, enablers and opportunities that are part of the experience of higher education.

Submissions will not be formally assessed; all suitable work will be displayed in ADM-HEA’s online Networks publication issue 17 to be published in April 2012. The winner and runner up will be selected via an online voting system.

The winning entry will be eligible for the prize of £300 and the runner up £100.

The closing date for entries is Friday, 3 February 2012.

Note: You may wish to share this with your fellow students and staff to develop the award as part of your course programme.

The Chromatic Typewriter

Washington-based painter Tyree Callahan modified a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter, replacing the letters and keys with color pads and hued labels to create a functional “painting” device called the Chromatic Typewriter. Callahan submitted the beautiful typewriter as part of the 2012 West Prize competition, an annual art prize that’s determined by popular vote.

So good.

I once asked an artist where they sourced all of the found objects they used in their art work - “The word is Ephemera!” she replied, no wonder Art gets a bad name. Semantics aside, we expect all staff and students to participate in our 2nd Annual Art Exhibition – large format printing voucher for the winner.

Alpha-ville moving image competition

Screening of the winners of the 2011 moving image competition in partnership with Vimeo, Little White Lies, Shooting People and Animate Projects, Alpha-ville has invited artists working across all genres including animation (2D, 3D, stop-frame, CGI, motion graphics, etc), fiction, documentary or experimental.
